Quick History View on Private Plates :- The first private number plate ever issued in the UK was A 1 in 1903, it was issued to Earl Russell who had to queue over night, but it was free! It was later sold to a well know foreign prince for over a quarter of a million pounds along with "1 A". Now "A 1" alone is thought to be worth well over £1,000 000!.
