POLICE are appealing to the public to be vigilant after three bogus DVLA officials conned a Flintshire man out of cash.

Three men called at a house in the Broughton area purporting to be officials from the DVLA on Wednesday, July 3.

A North Wales Police spokeswoman said: “They claimed the man’s tax disc on a car had expired and said they would take the car away.

“The man was accompanied to nearby cash machines where he withdrew £80 and handed it to them. All three men spoke with a broad Irish accent.”

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the Broughton area, or anyone with information relating to the men is asked to contact PC 1644 Phillip Mather at Saltney Police Station on 0845 607 1001 (Welsh) 0845 607 1002 (English) or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
