THOUSANDS of civil servants at Swansea's DVLA are due to take strike action tomorrow as part of a fair pay campaign.

The action, which will also affect local DVLA offices around the UK, comes amid anger that staff are paid 16 per cent less than colleagues on the same grades elsewhere in the Department for Transport, says the union.

Jeff Evans, PCS senior national officer for Wales, said: "It is completely unacceptable for staff to be paid so much less than colleagues elsewhere in the same Government department, for doing the same sort of work."

Friday's strike is the third by DVLA members this year.

The union is also challenging the pay gap under equal pay legislation, since the majority of DVLA employees are women.
