NOTTINGHAM'S first car registration plate – which was used on Goldfinger's car in the classic James Bond film – is expected to sell for more than £80,000 at an auction next month.

The number plate, AU1, was the first issued in Nottingham in 1903.

It was fitted to the Bond villain's Rolls-Royce Phantom III because AU is the chemical symbol for gold on the periodic table.

Auction house Bonhams is set to sell the plate at its annual motoring sale in Olympia, West London.

The Lotus used by Roger Moore's Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me will also be sold at the same event.
