A FATHER and son hope a personalised number plate will prove a thriller for Michael Jackson souvenir-hunters.

Paul Goddard and dad Roger bought the registration, “MJ 09 JUN”, from a website, as it could be read as a reference to Jacko, who died in June.

They are marketing it on Ebay, with a starting price of £8,999.

Paul, 21, an office manager at Braintree Accident Repair Centre, said: “I was driving behind a car, which had MJ in the registration number.

“After much research, I believe my plate is the only way of representing the death of Michael Jackson on a registration plate.”

One-of-a-kind plates from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency can be bought for only a few hundred pounds, but the pair hope to make thousands by selling it at on the online auction site.

Paul and Roger, 62, of Prettygate Road, Colchester, hope fans will want to follow the example of student Thomas Slater, from Hitchin, Herts. Although he does not yet own a car, he is ready to pay tribute to the King of Pop when he hits the road with his “MJ 09 KOP” plates.

The lively market for Jackson memorabilia looks set to be confirmed on Saturday, when some of the star’s belongings go under the hammer at an auction in New York.

A leather glove, worn by Jacko on his maiden Moonwalk, in 1983, is expected to fetch $40,000 (£23,750).
