Easy - Fast - Safe - Secure......!
CAR REGISTRATION NUMBER PLATE TRANSFER INFORMATION
NUMBER PLATES - Welcome, we can provide your new number plates on a certificate issued by Department of Transport (DoT) Swansea. This will be valid for up to 12 months (in certain circumstances we may be able to extend the validity of the certificate for a small administration charge). This is ideal
if you wish to keep the number plate for a gift later on.
PERSONALISED REGISTRATIONS - Department of Transport (DoT) V778 Retention Document Change of nominee details - This is quite easy if the new nominee has contact with or is the grantee as it is the grantee that has to sign to authorise any change or extension on the certificate/number
plate/registration number. If
however the registration number/certificate or the rights to the number plate are sold whilst on a certificate, the majority of the grantees on these certificates will be totally unknown to the new nominee's, this is where it may be better to assign the number plates to a vehicle as quickly as possible. The straight forward move would be to sign the certificate, then forward it to the Department of Transport (DoT) Swansea with a cheque for the requisite amount (£25 as of
May 2005 for both change of nominee and extension all V778 and V750 certificates).
PERSONAL PLATES - Department of Transport (DoT) V778 and Department of Transport (DoT) V750 Certificates to Northern Ireland Vehicles - Unfortunately this is not straight forward; it seems the government do not encourage English mainland
personal number plates to be transferred to N.I. But as you may expect this can be quite easily done with the correct guidance. The registration number/certificate has to be transferred to a vehicle on the English mainland first; the cost of this is £80 as of May 2005. The initial transfer is quite straight forward if you have access to a vehicle registered on the mainland. Once the transfer has been accepted by the Department of Transport (DoT) Local vehicle registration office
the donor vehicle will then need to be inspected, once the inspection has been confirmed, the donor vehicle will be issued with a new number and all documentation including the recipient vehicles details forwarded to Department of Transport (DoT) N.I in Colerain. They will then transfer the personal number plates onto the Irish designated vehicle.
CAR REGISTRATIONS - Once you have received your V750 or V778 certificate, you may transfer the number plate to your vehicle the same day via your local vehicle registration office (all location address's are provided). You will need your V5 log book, a valid MoT (if the
vehicle requires one) and a copy of the valid road tax. Once the Local Vehicle Registration Office are happy with the transfer you may display your new cherished number plates on your vehicle. (Contact www.plates-posted.co.uk )for quality 3D Perspex plates). Please remember, you can not make an older vehicle look newer. Example TT51 AUD can not go onto Y344 JFD and K9 AMR can not be transferred to C557 TGB.
Department of Transport (The DVLC) - To transfer your cherished number plate off a vehicle and onto a Department of Transport (DoT) V778 holding retention certificate: The donor vehicle needs to be taxed and hold a valid MoT certificate (if required) (Note: if the donor vehicle has no road tax or MoT but has held valid road tax
within the last six months, the transfer may still be possible but the donor vehicle would require a vehicle inspection). Once you have all documentation in order including the Department of Transport (DoT) V778 retention application form and the £105 Department of Transport (DoT) fee, the application can be applied for at a local vehicle registration office. (either by post or by hand). Once the Local Vehicle Registration office are happy with the transfer, they will issue a new number for the
donor vehicle and forward the documentation to Department of Transport (DoT) Swansea for completion and issue of the new V5 Log book bearing the new registration number.
PRIVATE
NUMBER PLATES - Historically private number plates have always increased in value; some examples are A1 and 1A. A 1 was originally issued back in 1903 to the late Earl Russell, he wanted this number plate so badly he camped outside the doors of the vehicle registration office all night, just to make
sure this number was his. In those days A 1 would have cost nothing but a small registration fee. The younger brother "1 A" was sold at a Department of Transport (DoT) auction in December 1989 reaching a hammer price of £160,000. Nearly ten years on the late Roy Palmer bought and sold both numbers together to a very flamboyant Royal prince. The private plates were transferred very quickly to identical white Bentleys, just in time to collect the prince from his private jet. Today
the first private number plate ever issued "A 1" could be worth anything up to £1,000 000, if in the unlikely event it would be for sale.
