Some Common Things To Know About Personalised Number Plates

Leaving the dealership with a new car is an indescribable sensation, like the realisation of a dream. What many people forget is that spending on the new vehicle does not end as soon as it leaves the store. From there, it is necessary to resolve all pending documentation to be able to legally drive on the UK's roads

One of these requirements is the licence plate of the vehicle which guarantees its identification and allows it to travel on public roads. The dealer will register the car with a standard age-related registration. However, you may later want to add a personalised number plate and it is possible to do that yourself.

The importance of a registration number

Just as we have several documents that identify us, one of the ways to identify vehicles in circulation is the registration number. Mandatory for all motor vehicles such as cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles, they allow the identification of those who commit traffic violations. In the cities that restrict vehicles in their perimeters, the registration number is also a reference to define those who can travel within the city every day. The number plate is a type of vehicle identification registered with the UK government's Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA). Therefore, it is prohibited by law to drive without a number plate

Assigning a personalised number plate to your new car is a simple process. To help you, we have prepared a step by step guide with everything you have to do to make the process run smoothly.

Assigning a personalised number plate

When you buy a personalise number plate, you will either get a V750 entitlement document or a V778 retainment document, both of which show that you are the owner of that registration number. To assign the number, you can apply for free by post or online.

You will need to provide the following documents:

  • The V5C registration document
  • V750 or V778 certificate of entitlement for the personalised number plate

If the DVLA requires the vehicle to be inspected before the assignment of your private plate they will contact you. Otherwise, the new number is assigned immediately and you can put your treasured plates onto your car. You will be sent a new V5C log book with the new registration number.

If you already own a private number plate when you buy your new car, you can ask the dealership to register the car with your number saving you the trouble of doing it yourself.

    Use a number plate dealer

At the end of the day, for those who don't have a lot of time or have some difficulty dealing with the documentation process, registering your car may not seem that simple. At these times, it may be best to leave economy aside and use the services of a trusted dealer who will take care of all of this for you.

Today, with advances in technology, any process can be done easily. You can even order personalised number plates online. The internet has changed everything, including how we take care of registering or transferring number plates to our vehicles. Hope this article can help. Thanks for reading!
