Popular Name Number Plates for 2024

Baby names that are popular now, are likely to make popular and valuable registrations in the coming years as those babies progress through their childhood soon to become young 'driving' adults.

Muhammad held onto the boy's top spot, while Olivia made it back to the top spot on the girl's list.

Experts at BabyCentre unveiled the lists which includes 100 of the most popular boys and girls names and their spelling variations.

In the girl's list, last year's number one 'Sophia' dropped to eighth place after the a change to the way they count to include different spellings of the same name.

The organisation say film, TV, music and the British Royals have an impact on popularity, with names like Taylor (Swift) doubling in popularity.

Willow, which is the name of a Taylor Swift song on her Folklore album, also climbed the popularity ladder on both lists. In 2023 and looks to continue for 2024 there is a trend for magical or witch-themed names such as Luna, Sage and Lyra, whilst traditionally royal names such as William, Charles and Harry have dropped in popularity (although Charlie occupies the 12th position and George (Prince) remains the most popular of the Royal names in 7th)

Noah is still the second most popular name chosen by parents in the UK but Jack has dropped from third to tenth. In 15th spot is 'Jude', perhaps gaining popularity due to the football star, Birmingham born Jude Bellingham who excelled for England in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in December 2022.

With popularity of names ever changing , so does the demand for certain initials when it comes to personalised number plates. Historically first name letters A, D, J, M and S were some of the most popular, but with the likes of Leo / Lily and Olivia / Oliver taking a foothold in the respective top 5 lists, L and O could become more in demand as time goes on. Family names or surnames as they're often referred remain constant as these generally remain the same as are used down the generations.
