Our DVLA Auction credentials
CarReg have been sponsoring the Number Plates Auction Price Guide and The Car Numbers Book for over 30 years. We have attended almost every DVLA Auction sale either in person or have bid remotely online. We have excellent knowledge of how the auctions work and can often accurately estimate what many will sell for in an ever changing market. We have acquired thousands of private car numbers by way of number plate auctions, saving clients time and money. Dealers and traders often purchase stock from auctions although competition is high and as such they are not always representative of being good value.
Types of DVLA number plate auctions
The DVLA previously had two types of auction. There were “Live Auctions” and “Timed” (Online only) sales. The ‘Timed Auctions’ were originally for lower priced year letter numbers and the Live Auction of Personalised Registrations, where more select desirable number plates are sold. During the Covid-19 pandemic all auctions moved to Online and the final ‘Live Auction’ sale was held in Stratford upon Avon in 2023. The number plate auctions typically have reserve prices that start at £120 but even some with low reserve prices have been known to sell for high prices. Usually the highest sellers of the auction will be in excess of £50,000 with the lowest values achieved being just a few hundred pounds.
Buy Number Plates to sell on in future
We have built a large client base of customers who ask us to buy number plates from auctions with a view to selling them on for profit either immediately or at a later date. Past auction prices show prices have risen steadily over the last 30 years. By using our knowledge and guidance, clients should get a healthy return on their investment (ROI). You and your family can also enjoy the use of the number plates whist earning money when they sell. Auction prices have risen considerably over the years due to strong public interest and more and more people seeing them as potential investments.
It is easy and straight forward to buy a number plate from a DVLA auction. After all successful bids, payment is required immediately. DVLA then issue the V750 certificate of entitlement within 14 days which can then be used to assign to a vehicle of your choice, or held on Certificate for 10 years.
