The Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) hold 9 personalised number plate auctions every year. The auctions are all online and are now run by John Pye Auctions on behalf of DVLA, having taken over from BCA in October 2025. Prices have generally increased each year so don’t delay, invest as soon as you can!
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, prices have soared and still remain strong now, 6 years on in early 2026. The public and Investors are clearly not deterred from purchasing personalised numbers. For many years it has been said they make ideal maintenance free assets for those with spare money, who do not necessarily want to use the registration themselves. Personalised registrations can be a sound investment if bought wisely. Like anything else, investments can sometimes go down as well as up, but history has shown most dateless registrations and those prefix/suffix/current style which represent a word or name have increased in value over time.
