Can I transfer a plate whilst the vehicle is SORN?
Yes you can, but sometimes this cannot be done online, depending on how long the vehicle has been SORN (off the road). If longer than 5 years then the likelihood is the application will have to go to DVLA by post.
The vehicle must either be SORN or have valid road tax and MOT for an online transfer to work. If it’s currently untaxed you must first declare vehicle as SORN or re-tax the vehicle. You can still transfer the registration by completing form V317 and sending it by post to the DVLA with the appropriate documents (V5C & Certificate)
